The 240-Hour Transit Visa-Free Policy, also known as the 240-hour visa-free transit (TWOV), is a Chinese government policy that allows citizens from 55 eligible countries to stay in designated areas of China for up to 10 days without a visa. The key condition is that you are traveling to a third country or region, making China a stopover rather than your final destination .
Introduced in December 2024, this policy replaced and expanded the previous 72 and 144-hour transit allowances. It provides a much more flexible opportunity for tourism, business, or visiting family during a long layover .
