Located at the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains near Yinchuan, Ningxia, the Xixia Imperial Tombs Mausoleums are a UNESCO World Heritage Imperial Burial Site (inscribed in 2025). Built for the Tangut rulers of the Western Xia Dynasty (1038–1227), the complex spans 40 square kilometers, featuring 9 imperial tombs and 271 smaller burial mounds.
Known as the "Oriental Pyramids", the tombs boast distinctive pyramid-like earthen mounds, blending Tangut, Han, and Tibetan architectural styles. As the largest and best-preserved relic of the Western Xia, it serves as a vital testament to the dynasty's history and cultural integration along the ancient Silk Road.
