The Ming Tombs (Thirteen Tombs) are a must-visit for history enthusiasts visiting Beijing. As a World Heritage site and a 5A-rated scenic area, it is the largest cluster of imperial mausoleums in China. Below is a practical guide to help you plan your trip.

Core Attractions & Tickets
The scenic area covers a vast area, but the most accessible and essential sites are Changling, Dingling, Zhaoling, and the Sacred Way.

Sacred Way: The "spiritual path" leading to the tombs. It features the magnificent Stone Archway (the largest existing stone archway in China) and a 7.3-kilometer avenue lined with 24 pairs of stone animals and officials, showcasing the supreme artistry of Ming Dynasty stone carving.

Changling: The tomb of Emperor Yongle (Zhu Di). It is the largest and best-preserved. The Enen Hall is the only hall of its kind in the Ming Tombs, supported by 60 massive pillars of rare nanmu wood, exuding an awe-inspiring grandeur.

Dingling: The tomb of Emperor Wanli (Zhu Yijun). It is the only tomb that has been scientifically excavated. You can go deep underground to explore the underground palace, a magnificent underground stone chamber, and see the emperor's crown and other unearthed treasures.

Zhaoling: The tomb of Emperor Muzong. It has been restored to its original appearance and is a textbook example of a Ming imperial tomb, offering a complete view of the tomb's layout.

Transportation & Itinerary Tips
Transportation Options:
Bus: Take bus 872 from Deshengmen to go directly to the scenic area.
Subway + Bus: Take the Changping Line to Shisanling Xinqu Station, then transfer to local buses.
Driving: The route is clear, and there are parking lots at each scenic spot.

Recommended Routes:
Classic Route (Half-day): Sacred Way → Dingling → Changling. This route covers the most representative sites.
In-depth Route (Full-day): In addition to the above, you can add Zhaoling or visit the recently opened Jingling (requires advance booking).
Note: The distance between the sites is considerable, so wear comfortable shoes. Also, the opening times for the sites are generally from 08:30 to 17:30.
