The Overhanging Great Wall is a remarkable section and the west end of the Ming Great Wall, located north of Jiayuguan Pass. Built along the steep mountain ridge, it clings to the cliff like a hanging dragon, hence its vivid name.

Constructed with rammed earth, the wall stretches uphill winding and undulating. It was an important defensive barrier guarding the western frontier in ancient times. Against the vast Gobi Desert and rolling mountains, the rugged wall presents a magnificent and desolate frontier scenery.
