Located on the northern edge of Turpan Basin, Xinjiang, the Flaming Mountain is a striking red sandstone range and China's undisputed "hottest spot". Stretching 98km east-west and 9km wide, it peaks at 831.7m, with rust-hued slopes glowing like flames under the sun.

Formed 170 million years ago, its iron-rich red sandstone intensifies heat. Summer air temperatures hit 47.8°C, while surface temperatures soar to 89°C—hot enough to roast eggs in sand. Rainless and barren, it's a dramatic natural wonder. Famous from Journey to the West, where the Monkey King battles its fires, it also lies on the ancient Silk Road. A national geopark today, it blends extreme nature, myth, and Silk Road legacy into one unforgettable landmark.
