Also known as Zhang Huanhou Temple, it's a national key culture relic of Three Kingdoms and 4A-level scenic area perched by the Yangtze River in Yunyang, Chongqing. Built in the late Shu Kingdom of the Three Kingdoms Period, it honors Zhang Fei, a valiant general and sworn brother of Liu Bei. With a 1,700-year history, it was relocated 32km upstream in 2002 due to the Three Gorges Project, preserving its original layout.
L against hills and facing the river, the complex features classic Chinese architecture like the Oath Pavilion and Main Hall. It's famed for the "Three Uniqueness": peerless essays, calligraphy and carvings, housing over 300 precious stone inscriptions and artworks. A blend of heroic legends, ancient architecture and riverine scenery, it's a gem of Three Kingdoms culture and a must-visit along the Yangtze.
