Daxu Ancient Town, a national historic and cultural town, lies on the east bank of the Li River, 18 kilometers southeast of Guilin. As the largest of Guangxi's four ancient market towns, it dates back to 200 AD, flourishing in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and peaking in the Republican era.

Stretching 2 kilometers along the river, its bluestone-paved old street is lined with well-preserved Ming and Qing-style buildings—black bricks, grey tiles, and "front-shop-back-residence" layouts. The iconic Wanshou Bridge, a single-arch stone bridge from the Ming Dynasty, spans the river. Ancient workshops for bamboo weaving and straw sandals still operate, preserving folk traditions.

A historic water and land hub, it was once a bustling commercial port with hundreds of ships docked daily. Free from excessive commercialization, it retains local life and authentic Lingnan charm, a living museum of Guilin's riverside heritage.
