Hidden about 110 km north of Lijiang, Baoshan Stone City is a breathtaking Naxi ancient village perched atop a huge mushroom‑shaped rock in the Jinsha River Gorge. With a history of over 1,300 years, it's known as "a castle on the cliff" and a milestone in Naxi civilization.

Surrounded by sheer cliffs on three sides and the rushing Jinsha River below, the entire village—over 100 households—is built directly on the monolithic rock. Naxi people chiseled houses, streets, and even daily necessities like stone beds, stoves, and vats from the rock itself. In Naxi language, it's called "La Bai Lu Pan Wu," meaning "white stone fortress".Far from commercial crowds, it preserves authentic Naxi traditions.
